Representing the Honshu island in the Nagano prefecture, Arukuma is a green bear that wears a hood in the shape of an apple or one of the region’s other specialties such wine, matsutake mushrooms and soba noodles. This mascot recently beat 787 others in the annual Yuruchara Grand Prix, an online vote to establish Japan’s most popular mascot.
